I enjoy making a quick sketch of my pet. After the initial lines, it’s just about filling in colours and giving it some depth. It’s always a fun and rewarding experience ๐Ÿ˜Š

On Thin Ice ๐Ÿ˜

As a birthday celebration my daughter wanted us to do something we’d never done before. ๐Ÿ˜

I asked her to choose her activity and that I would be game for anything she decides… I thought, based on her interests, it would be a new art gallery or exhibition somewhere. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

How wrong was I!

She chose ice-skating๐Ÿ˜ถ๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ˜ฎ!!

I had skated as a child, on rinks with old wooden floors, but ICE!? On blades for shoes? Never in my wildest dreams ๐Ÿ˜.

So there we landed up on a freezing morning, snowflakes were still falling… Temperature was hovering around 0 degrees. We hired our skates and were given wrist bands to enter the skating rink and then left on our own. ๐Ÿ˜ถ๐Ÿ˜

There we were, two women who were suddenly gliding and falling on thin ice ๐Ÿ˜‚. It was the scariest and most exhilarating feeling I’ve had in years! The snowflakes added to the beauty of the surreal atmosphere as did the pounding music, exhorting us to feel our body connect with the frozen ice, to just feel the rhythm…. Dance, glide, fall, get up again ๐Ÿ˜Š. So beautiful, so simple, and so enjoyable…. Before I realised, I was swaying and gliding (not as gracefully as I would have liked to though๐Ÿ˜†! )

As I nurse every aching muscle of my sore body, I realise the importance of moving out of ones comfort zone…. Of just doing something for the sheer novelty of it!

For my daughter it was a gift that money couldn’t buy and for me, it turned out to be the most memorable and enjoyable part of my entire, winter in the East Coast experience ๐Ÿ˜€!

I Love a Good Vine ๐Ÿ˜

I love a good vine๐Ÿ˜Š.

The kind that meanders aimlessly, latches on to ropes and wires, finds finger holds inside crevices, so that it can go further and farther.

I love it’s little tendrils and the joy of finding small fruits shielded by big leaves, just suddenly, and then you lift more leaves and are constantly surprised by just how busy its been, creating flowers and fruits ๐Ÿ˜Š!

I love a good vine because it has the audacity to think that it has the strength to give birth to something as huge as a pumpkin and still meander along merrily.

It’s this stubborn streak in it, that I most admire ๐Ÿ˜

The Driving Test ๐Ÿ˜‚

So. I went to Sheikh Sarai to get my licence renewed.๐Ÿ˜Ž

The all important Window No 1. looked empty from a distance so I increased my speed to a double trot, not believing my good luck.๐Ÿ˜

Once there, the reason became clear… Starting 26th Dec, all tests were going to be conducted from Sarai Kale Khan ๐Ÿ™„.

When I broke this news to my driver he was shocked…. But that’s so far, he exclaimed.

I would have nothing of it. So off we went in search of this elusive place. Upon reaching I was introduced to a full-blown, complex, complicated course, designed to make you fail!

The instructor incharge was a man of few words..

I will not repeat my instructions, you don’t follow, you can leave. You touch the embankment, you leave. If you cannot make a tight, looped, 8, leave, if you cannot parallel park, you know what to do… I thought in my heart, When do we stay!??

To make matters more interesting, as it happens in India all the time, when there is a high probability of people making a fool of themselves in public, a large group had gathered around the boundary walls of the driving course.. (my driver included ๐Ÿ˜ถ).

Having driven most of my adult life, I was working out my cuts and turns in my head, visualizing amazing grace and dexterity in my every turn ๐Ÿ˜‡. It didn’t help that the three drivers ahead of me were disqualified for climbing on various embankments ๐Ÿ˜ฅ within minutes of each other.

When my turn came, I reached the instructor efficiently… Only to be told,

Seatbelt kaun bandhe Gaa???

Looking suitably shame-faced, I buckled in and tackled the course, with minor hiccups ๐Ÿ˜.

I remembered to give the indicator everytime the road turned, I was neither fast, nor furious (๐Ÿ˜‚) just a picture of calm on the outside.

When the result was announced, I felt no less than Miss World!!! I could’ve thrown flying kisses to all the hangers on, who were showing me the ‘thumbs up’ sign ๐Ÿ˜†๐Ÿ˜

But I didn’t.

I was just glad that I hadn’t failed the test that my son had passed!!
