Dignity

‘Dignity’ is such a beautiful word.
It is an inherent quality of grace that some people have, no matter what work they do…the work doesn’t give it to them, they impart it, from their being, onto the work they are doing.

I chanced upon and started a conversation with a charming lady taking care of toilets in Fortis Hospital.

She was standing on the counter and wiping the upper reaches of the mirror. I greeted her and complimented her on her attention to detail, to which she replied, with a smile,

“This job gives me food, it keeps my family satisfied, so I should give it my best..”

Closeted in a space full of toilets, cleaning our careless mess and with a heart full of gratitude… !

What struck me most was just how neatly she was dressed. Her hair tied in a bun, lipstick and kaajal in place, a beautiful smile of greeting that actually reached her eyes!

The toilet was her domain, keeping it clean, her sole purpose. Her job was a reflection of her and she wasn’t ready to let herself down!
