Trees that Strangers Plantโค๏ธ

One of the reasons I love travelling and walking or cycling is because I get to see the trees in different seasons planted by strangers and under whose shade I’ve had my most peaceful moments on our planet, in my little life ๐Ÿ˜Š.

The horticulturists who decide on vegetation for entire cities, keeping every avenue, neighborhood and road in mind, don’t think of the ‘now’, they plan for generations ahead. Realizing full well that the fruits of these trees and the shade of them will belong to grateful strangers, decades later.

When the foundation for Chandigarh was being laid down by Le Corbusier, I read that he had planned the sectors colour-wise ๐Ÿค—… He had planned that each section of the city will be in full-bloom at different times of year!

Planting trees is an art known to a chosen few professionals who devote their life learning about soil and water and seeds and nurturing… These are the souls who give our city their green lungs.

Should we not bow our heads in reverence, if not to them and their foresight, then at least to the majestic greenery around us?

No one should cut them with impunity, by getting some papers signed from an indifferent office bearer.

These are our treasures to be safe-guarded for the generations ahead. These are to be hugged whenever the opportunity presents itself ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ™โค๏ธ

Stunning Simal Trees

.
.
Your Majesty
.
You probably don’t know
But I wait for your blooming
O stately Simal tree
As Feb gives way to March
You come upon glory
And are no doubt
The most ‘happening’ place in town
Ask the birds and the bees
You are the envy
Of other trees๐Ÿ˜Š

When I drive,
My eyes look out for you
I drive slow
And stick to my left
For I don’t know
When I might chance
Upon, you or yours
My mind registers colours
The palest and the deepest
Hues
Your Scarlett… Crimson… Vermillion
Should make front page news๐Ÿ‘Œ!

My Moms Mango Tree

Naanis Mango Tree

My mom and I planted this tree at our home many decades ago.

It has seen two generations clamber onto its welcoming and sturdy branches. They are the ultimate playground for every age group (barring my moms, I think ๐Ÿ˜‚)

No visit of mine is complete without reacquainting myself with this beautiful tree. It welcomes me like an old, dear friend, helps me find the best way up and holds me gently on its moss covered branches. It’s perfect for summer, it’s foliage of leaves giving out cool vapours and a faint, refreshing aroma. I can sit on this tree for hours, with or without a book or sketch pad.

Many years back, my son and I wrapped some money in a polythene and hid it in the vicinity of the tree. Neither he nor I remember where our ‘hidden treasure’ is! Digging around Moms tree will bring down unimaginable wrath, as only my nature loving mother can shower๐Ÿ˜ถ!

My kids write about this tree in their creative writing classes and attach many pleasing memories to it, much as one would to a dearly loved relative. ๐Ÿ˜

I hug it goodbye, everytime I leave my moms home. Sometimes I visit it even if our home is locked and my mom is travelling out of station.๐Ÿ™„

To say that nature relieves one of stress is an understatement… It imparts relaxation and a unique acceptance of ones so called ‘failures and successes’ . In being steadfast, it tells us that everything changes, but the core remains the same. In giving fruits intermittently, it tells us that time is never wasted, it is being used for higher goals. It also tells us that rest is vital and one should not feel guilty taking it….๐Ÿ˜Š

But most importantly, it seems to say, ‘Take your time… You are precious, just the way you are… ๐Ÿ’•’

Slide Show!ย

โ€‹So. I saw this astonishing carpet of the most beautiful color spread out in front of me. I wanted to photograph it, and the only way to do it was to climb a childrens slide, stand on the platform on top and take this shot.
That’s exactly what I did, except instead of climbing down the ladder after the shot, I slid down the slide and landed unceremoniously in a heap of flailing hands and hair! It was so worth it! As I dusted myself and looked around surreptitiously to see if I had an audience, I was relieved to find myself quite alone โ˜บ๏ธ
I proceeded for my art class clutching this fun and valuable memory of something I hadn’t done in years๐ŸŒผ๐ŸŽถ The first person I met, giggled and said, “That looked like fun… I was watching you from the window!”
