I woke up in the morning and was wondering about my sketch for the day when a beautiful photograph materialised on Facebook.
Without thinking twice, I made a quick watercolour and posted it in my album on FB titled, ‘A sketch a Day’ after giving due credit to the photographer for providing the inspiration.
In no time I received a message from an online magazine asking me if they could use my sketch, as I had no objection, the excerpt below is what they did with it!!
When the two art’s merge, The epic combination happens…..

The arrival of monsoons brings forth endless opportunities for photographers to capture the beauty of the season. Those dreamy, pastel shaded landscapes to interesting street scenes, just sit in a dingy corner of a roadside tea shop and watch the magic of rainy season. The only challenge remains the safety of camera equipment, especially lenses.

Little Buda peeped from behind a broken wall, eyes alight with curiosity. When I looked up, he retreated behind the wall. After a few minutes of this game, I beckoned him to me. I was sitting on the roof of our homestay in Sikkim and sketching the vast and endless mountains visible from my perch. As he approached me I asked him if he would like to draw something. He nodded shyly and became excited when I gave him a sketch pad and pen. We both sat quietly, each lost in a private world, drawing and colouring. Later, he was called down by someone, who I presumed might be his mother.
It was as we were leaving, that I found out that Buda’s mother had abandoned him and he was being brought up by the entire village. They made sure that he ate, went to school and had a home to come back to…
In our parting photograph with the family that we were staying with, Buda was on the hip of our hostess, smiling into the camera with glee 😊
Any woman can have a mother’s heart, you don’t have to be one to embrace another with that kind of love…
When taking a ride on a shikara in the backwaters of the Dal lake, the parting between the Lilly pads become roads for navigation! At a certain point a right turn takes you to a floating market, another one to the main lake, yet another to a housing colony of homes on stilts. .
I am told that when the Lillies and Lotus bloom, sometime in June, these backwaters are a sight to behold! Imagine water roads and Lilly embankments! Truly magical! .

Gliding like gentle giants on the Lake, they come from nowhere, bearing dignity, humility and exotic wares….sometimes flowers, Lotus and water lilly seeds, silver jewellery, embroidered cloth, papier mache artefacts.
The whole experience of shopping on water is a unique one! The sellers don’t harass, though one can see their eagerness to make a sale.
Living in a place where peace is the most dispensable commodity, Every day that goes quietly needs to be cashed in. As they patiently open box after box, all they ask of you is that you have a look and if you really like something, buy. The money you part with will go a long way for them… For they don’t know when the next day of peace will dawn….

The Tulip Gardens in Srinagar are open to public from the 1st to 15th of April.
After longing to be there for years I finally found myself smack in the middle of them!! They took my breath away to say the least.
The setting of the gardens, in a Valley, overlooked by lofty mountains and fluffy clouds is supremely beautiful. Row upon row of the most glorious colors compliment each other and the eyes soak it all in and the heart releases a sigh of gratitude at such beauty!

Today, when I get home
And open my door
It will be with a smile
I shall pause at the threshold
Take a deep breath
And step in
I shall take nothing
Today, when I go home
I shall do so with a smile
Because I have a
Roof over my head
And a song
In my heart
The tune of which
Only I know
So, I will sing my song
Sometimes in my heart
Sometimes deep into my soul
I have a song to sing….
Crossed this little tent during my morning walk.. Someone inside was singing a tuneless song, there was a small gas already lit and tea was being made… It brought a spring to my step… This resilience, this makeshift, colorful abode which housed a singing soul …
