Trees that Strangers Plant❀️

One of the reasons I love travelling and walking or cycling is because I get to see the trees in different seasons planted by strangers and under whose shade I’ve had my most peaceful moments on our planet, in my little life 😊.

The horticulturists who decide on vegetation for entire cities, keeping every avenue, neighborhood and road in mind, don’t think of the ‘now’, they plan for generations ahead. Realizing full well that the fruits of these trees and the shade of them will belong to grateful strangers, decades later.

When the foundation for Chandigarh was being laid down by Le Corbusier, I read that he had planned the sectors colour-wise πŸ€—… He had planned that each section of the city will be in full-bloom at different times of year!

Planting trees is an art known to a chosen few professionals who devote their life learning about soil and water and seeds and nurturing… These are the souls who give our city their green lungs.

Should we not bow our heads in reverence, if not to them and their foresight, then at least to the majestic greenery around us?

No one should cut them with impunity, by getting some papers signed from an indifferent office bearer.

These are our treasures to be safe-guarded for the generations ahead. These are to be hugged whenever the opportunity presents itself πŸ˜ŠπŸ™β€οΈ

Flying home πŸ¦πŸŒƒ

Refueling before night fall πŸ˜ŠπŸŒƒ

There is one particular chair that allows me to see the birds without them seeing me 😊🐦. From this vantage point, I check them out. The big and the small, the naughty and the sedate.

I observe a squirrel lie flat against the mud bowl that holds water, he seems to be cooling his entire body before he falls asleep. The movement of feathers startles him and he scurries away quickly. It’s a cuckoo bird or a crow that lands noisily.

A small red vented bulbul also comes now and then. My personal favourite remain the Parakeets, I could see them for hours and not be bored, I could sketch them and never want to change the subject 😊

As the saying goes, “You can lead the horse to water but you can’t make it drink it.” So I’ve learnt with Birds differently… You can place water for them, they’ll find it by their own instinct, you can’t lead them to it 😁

Summer Saga with Birds πŸ¦πŸ¦

A crow has perched himself on the rim of the water trough. He is guarding it but he’s outnumbered by the equally stubborn and wilful Parakeets. 😊

For some reason, drinking a few sips of water is not enough, they want to be ‘owning’ the water 😁

One green beauty approaches from the side while the other from the front. With this strategy, they confuse the big guy. This goes on for a while, I wonder if I should intervene in this display of power. I decide against it.

Soon the crow fishes out the piece of ‘roti’ he has been soaking in the water and flies away leaving two happy birds at the helm, no doubt believing that they scared him off 😬

Fireflies and Lotus… Painting

Fireflies find their way into my mind and heart once again 😊. They delight me like we have a connection much deeper than meets the eye.

They give me hope and peace… They bring memories of my childhood to the fore, when they were in abundance and I had all the time in the world to watch their glowing dance πŸ˜πŸ™

Art on Rice Paper

The Lotus Eater 😁

Rice paper, contrary to its name, is highly resilient with water and quite enjoys mixing watercolours on its surface… It’s certainly challenging, but I can already feel the potential it has.

Looking forward to making more refined artwork on this beautiful surface 😊
