Find A Way Home

Morning walk revealed a bedraggled but beautiful Green Barbet chick trying to find a footing on a small bush. Last nights storm seemed to have propelled it into the low lying greens.

As I wandered around wondering what to do, the chick seemed to take it upon herself to let me know that she was fine. As she fluttered to a higher branch, I was reassured that she could take care of herself.

When I returned from my walk she was nowhere to be seen. Hopefully, branch by branch she was able to climb her way home. 😊

Cycling in the early morning hours takes me to places that have been in my neighborhood, but have been missed by me because I am always rushing by. As the cycle urges me to slow down to a leisurely pace, I notice the beautiful amidst the ugly.

Summer, with its blistering heat, takes away every urge to be outdoors and saps out energy from every living thing. But it is in the relative morning cool that the frolicking strays and their pups or the loud chirping of birds or a peacock ambling his graceful way home, or young children giggling as they try and find an open patch to start their play, that life takes on a different dimension. It is this change in perspective that brings new energy into the mundane and ordinary. At these times I am a silent observer of life. The reality of my existence takes away the weight of expectations from me and in that lightness of being, I too come alive.

My morning forays make me miss the cool mountains less. In the silence and solitude when people and pollution are minimal one is able to see enough beauty to last one through the day and of course, to also look forward to tomorrow and wonder about what new sights it will reveal!

Thank You Mother

Thank you, Mother…
Thank you dear mother for giving me life…

To believe that after two boys, a girl in your family would be nice

To take that decision, so many years back

When your two sons were already like a lively wolf pack!

To plunge headlong once more, into active motherhood

Knowing that your time would be ours now, probably, for good

To have happily made that choice, with a smile on your gentle face

Always believing our presence in your life was Gods most benign grace

You brought us up, through frustrations and tears, happiness and laughter

Chiselling and molding our being, like a wise, master-crafter

Keeping the larger picture in mind, you guided us with care

Giving us wide wings and deep values, you nudged us to take to the air

As the three of us live our lives, it’s around you that we fly

Like once you did for us mother, now on you, we keep a watchful eye

We want bliss and happiness around you mom, never sadness or strife

That will be our small gift to you….

To YOU, who chose to give us life…
